A festival site changes shape more than once in a matter of weeks: empty field, full production, empty field again. Everything in between runs on one document, the floor plan. Digital surveying of festivals makes that floor plan match reality, to the centimetre, in every phase: planning, permits, build-up and evaluation.
What digital surveying means on an event site
A GNSS receiver converts satellite signals into centimetre-accurate positions, which you record as points, lines or polygons on a digital map. You store the information in layers you create yourself in the survey software: stages and tent floors as polygons, fence lines and cable routes as lines, trash cans, toilets and first-aid posts as points.
First step: measure the boundaries of your event location. From there you draw the terrain on top of real dimensions, and the data is open, so it loads into the drawing and 3D sketch software you already use.
From floor plan to permit
Permit applications stand or fall on the floor plan. With a measured plan you show the municipality and emergency services exactly how far visitors are from the nearest first-aid post and how wide every emergency exit is. Those distances come from measurements instead of estimates, which makes the conversation with the licensing authority a lot shorter.
Build-up: everything in the right place, in the right order
During build-up, the floor plan turns into a stakeout list. Fence lines, stage corners and tent anchors get set out at their planned positions, so the site is built as designed rather than as improvised. That pays off in logistics too: when you know what goes where, you know what to load first and which truck enters the terrain in which order.
Anything that ends up somewhere else than planned gets measured on the spot, so the plan stays true during the event. After the break-down, the same measurements feed the evaluation: what worked, what shifts next year.

A concrete example
A mid-size festival moves to a new terrain. The production team measures the site boundary and the fixed obstacles (trees, ditches, a pond) in one afternoon. The designer draws the new layout that week, the permit drawings go out with real distances on them, and during build-up the crew stakes out the main stage and fence lines in a morning. Next year, the whole plan is reused as-is, because the terrain data is already there.
