Mapit GIS is a professional mapping and surveying app for Android and iOS, built for spatial asset collection, GNSS surveys and data management in the field. It works offline, and it runs on the phone or tablet you already carry.

The app supports the standard file formats you would expect, lets you design your own survey forms, and organises everything in layers. You can load MBTiles base maps for offline work, connect WMS services when you do have coverage, and see the GNSS quality data the app reports: HDOP, VDOP and PDOP alongside the satellite information.

On its own, a phone or tablet only manages a rough position. Pair Mapit GIS with a professional GNSS receiver and those same taps become centimetre-accurate measurements.

How the Mapit GIS GNSS connection works

En Receptor GNSS UNI-GR2 connects to your phone or tablet over Bluetooth and replaces the internal GPS as the position source. From that moment, every point, line and polygon you record in Mapit GIS carries a centimetre-accurate RTK position.

Setup is short: install Mapit GIS from Google Play or the App Store, pair the UNI-GR2 over Bluetooth, select it as your GNSS source in the app and check that the receiver has an RTK fix. Then you map as you always did, only now with survey-grade positions.

A concrete example

A forestry inspector surveys storm damage in an area without mobile coverage. The offline MBTiles base map keeps the orientation, the survey form captures tree species, trunk diameter and damage class, and the UNI-GR2 delivers the exact position of every stem. Back in coverage, the data syncs and the office sees precisely which trees need removal, down to the individual tree.

The same combination works for agriculture, road construction, geology, land surveying and solar panel projects: anywhere you need structured field data with positions you can trust.

Where Mapit GIS fits

Mapit GIS is a strong choice for teams that want form-based GIS collection on the device in their pocket. If your team mainly surveys and stakes out, have a look at our own UNI-Collect app as well. And if your office runs on desktop GIS, we have integrations for that side too: see el uso de QGIS como herramienta de topografía and our 2019 post ESRI ArcGIS Colector de datos y marXact, which covers Collector for ArcGIS.
