NieuwlandGeo, based in Wageningen in the Netherlands, builds WebGIS Publisher, a web-based GIS platform that local authorities, the Dutch regional water authorities and asset management organisations use to publish their geodata and put it to work in their daily processes. The accompanying WebGIS App, available for Android and iOS, is the field tool: inventories and inspections of fire hydrants, cables and pipes, playground equipment and green space, with configurable workflows, pick lists, photos and full offline support.
For a lot of that field work, phone GPS is good enough. But as soon as the exact position matters, with a cable in an open trench or a manhole under the surfacing, you want RTK accuracy. NieuwlandGeo supports external RTK receivers in the WebGIS App for that, and names marXact itself as one of the brands that make your position almost centimetre-accurate, in their words.
How the WebGIS App RTK integration works
You connect the UNI-GR2 GNSS-Empfänger to your phone or tablet over Bluetooth, after which it replaces the internal GPS as the position source for the WebGIS App. From that moment every inventory item gets a centimetre-accurate RTK position, instead of the rough position a phone or tablet manages on its own.
The rest of the way you work does not change: same app, same workflows, same sync with WebGIS Publisher. The positions are the difference, and they are now usable for setting out and for finding things again.
A concrete example
You can read how this works out in practice in our customer case: AVG detects explosives with help from marXact and NieuwlandGeo. In detecting unexploded ordnance every centimetre counts, and that is where the WebGIS App and the marXact receiver come together.
The same goes for more everyday work: an asset manager taking stock of gullies finds them again straight away on the next round, even under leaves or snow.
