Speer IT builds registration systems for the glass fibre industry. Their main product is Cocon, which Speer IT calls the market leader in the Netherlands and which is gaining ground internationally. Engineers, contractors and network operators use it to register, manage and share every detail of a fibre network.

The Speer IT Cocon UNI-Cloud connection brings the field into that same environment. Measurements taken with a marXact GNSS receiver land in UNI-Cloud and flow from there into Cocon in real time, so the network registration is built on positions that are centimetre-accurate instead of sketched.

How the Speer IT Cocon UNI-Cloud connection works

The field engineer measures the fibre route with a marXact GNSS receiver, for example the UNI-GR2, while the trench is open. Every point carries a centimetre-accurate RTK position. The measurements sync to UNI-Cloud, and through the real-time link with Cocon they appear in the environment the engineering team already works in every day. On our side we set that link up with Speer IT for the fieldwork part of Cocon, the Veldwerk module as we describe it in our own support material.

There is no retyping, no conversion step and no waiting for a surveyor’s export at the end of the week. The data goes from the external engineer straight into Cocon.

Why this matters in fibre

A fibre trench is open for hours, sometimes less. Whatever is not documented before the sand goes back in has to be reconstructed later, and reconstructed as-built data is exactly why maps end up unreliable. When every user can measure at any moment, in the familiar Cocon environment, the map stays complete and detailed while the rollout keeps its pace.

For contractors that means faster delivery to the network operator. For operators it means as-built data that arrives structured, georeferenced and ready to check.

A concrete example

Say a crew connects 40 homes in a new district. The engineer measures each handhole, tee and the trench line itself right after the ducts are laid, with the receiver on the pole. By the time the crew packs up, the day’s work is in Cocon, and the network operator can review it the same day. The alternative, reconstructing those positions weeks later from photos and memory, never reaches the same quality.
