Carlson Software has been building tools for land development professionals since 1983, and has said it intends to stay independent. Their range covers civil engineering, land surveying, machine control, positioning and mining software: the full cycle of a project, from concept to completion.

SurvPC is Carlson’s data collection package for Windows. It has a highly graphical user interface that prompts the user along the way, so no detail is missed in the field. Its best-known strength is hardware flexibility: Carlson publishes a supported-hardware list covering total stations and GNSS receivers from a range of manufacturers, so the software is not tied to one brand of instrument.

That flexibility is exactly where the Carlson SurvPC marXact combination fits.

How the Carlson SurvPC marXact combination works

Die UNI-GR2 GNSS-Empfänger outputs its position as a standard NMEA stream, and SurvPC reads that stream through its GNSS rover setup. Pair the receiver over Bluetooth, configure it as your rover, and SurvPC takes care of the rest: points, linework, stakeout, COGO and the rest of the Carlson toolkit, now running on centimetre-accurate RTK positions.

The UNI-GR2 tracks six constellations across 1408 channels, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS and NavIC, so fixes come fast and hold steady, also along tree lines and near buildings where a rover earns its keep.

A concrete example

A site engineer prepares the stakeout for a new access road. In SurvPC the design is already loaded. The engineer stakes the alignment with the UNI-GR2 on the pole, and where the route passes under a viaduct, switches to the robotic total station within the same SurvPC job. One controller, one job file, two instruments, and the office receives a single clean dataset at the end of the day.

For crews that already know Carlson, that is the whole pitch: keep the software you know, add a receiver that keeps up with it.

More ways to connect

SurvPC is one of several field packages that work with our receivers. MicroSurvey FieldGenius mit marXact is a comparable combination, and for GIS-oriented work there is Einsatz von QGIS als Vermessungswerkzeug.
