An infra site produces measuring work all day long: layer heights during paving, cables and pipes in the open trench, as-built checks before the next crew starts. Traditionally all of it waited for a surveyor, and the site waited with it. GPS surveying puts that work in the hands of the crew that is already there.
How it works on an infra site
A GNSS receiver such as the UNI-GR2 delivers centimetre-accurate RTK positions. Any crew member measures points, lines and polygons in the UNI-Collect app, sorted into layers, synced live to UNI-Cloud. The office sees the data the moment it exists and exports it as CSV, which every UNI-Cloud plan includes, or as DXF, DWG or LandXML on a Professional plan or higher, straight into the design and management systems the project runs on.
Stake-out works from the same set: the design loads onto the tablet, and kerb lines, sewer inverts and axis points go from drawing to ground without waiting for a third party.
The trench deserves special mention. It is only open once, and whatever is not measured before backfill has to be reconstructed later, which is exactly how unreliable as-built data is born. When the crew measures while the work happens, the as-built is finished when the street is.
Who already works this way
Infra companies run this at every scale. Hoornstra Infrabouw surveys its own projects with UNI-Collect and gained peace of mind along with the efficiency. Dura Vermeer repaves in Hoofddorp with measurements flowing into Infrakit. BRRC maps road construction, and Verkley expanded its marXact fleet after the first receivers proved themselves.
For the machine side of the site, UNI-Machine puts the same accuracy in the excavator cabin: the operator digs straight on the 3D design.
A concrete example
Say a road crew reconstructs 800 metres of provincial road. The foreman stakes out the new alignment from the tablet, the paving crew documents layer heights as they go, and the cables exposed in the verge are measured before the trench closes. At handover, the as-built matches what is in the ground, and the project does not spend its final week reconstructing what happened in week two.
