Feature Friday – From architect to automated, import drawings seamlessly

  • 4 min read
Feature Friday – July 2021

We have made it our mission to make digital surveying available to every field worker out there. To create the best possible personalized surveying experience for all of them, with handy tips and tricks, connections with other apps or software, and new feature releases frequently.

We’re going to combine these releases and updates and how they’ll improve your digital surveying experience in monthly updates: these Feature Friday blogs. This blog is dedicated to some exciting new features that are coming your way shortly. New possibilities such as a seamless import of drawings, an extension of sending files via email, and additional implementation methods for your UNI-GR1.

Import drawings seamlessly

We are working hard to extend the import of drawings possibilities and make sure they will be seamless. There are a few steps between, for example, a drawing made by an architect and the drawing that works best with our UNI-Solutions. We are creating multiple features to ensure that your drawings will get imported automatically, among other

  • The possibility to select which layer(s) you want to import from the comprehensive drawing
  • An automatic reduction of drawings and points
  • A preservation of layers
  • Supporting more and different layer types

These possibilities will become available in the upcoming time, we will write about the final versions in future Feature Friday blogs.

Sending exports per email, the extended versions

We have told you about sending exports per email in our last Feature Friday blog. This time around, we have some news about extended possibilities. We are working on features that not only allow you to share results with others immediately, but you will have even more control over this process.

You can soon start to export from the field using UNI-Connect or the office via the UNI-Cloud, both have a brand-new ‘ export button. After the release of this feature, you no longer have to wait before sending exports to others. You can set an email address to which the export files will be sent!

And as a reminder, you will be able to send the following file types after the completion of this feature:

  • CSV
  • DWG
  • DXF

Additional communication methods

You might have seen this on a leaflet or heard it during a demo: we have several possibilities to provide the necessary in- and output using your UNI-GR1: serial and USB. Using one of these possibilities, your receiver can directly receive output. If you have any adapters such as USB drivers, the output can be used via these channels, just as a micro USB connection can receive data. We are working on various additional options referring to the base mode, so you can choose the one that suits your work processes best.

What steps do you need to take?

Not a lot, if we are completely honest with you. All updates are done automatically and while you are out surveying in the field or preparing tasks in the office. You might need to turn your UNI-GR1 off and on again, but only when the update stops unexpectedly. After turning it on again, you are good to go.

More releases coming ups

We have more releases coming up this year, including expanding the KLIC viewer capabilities by adding codes via UNI-Connect for the Dutch market, a CAD drawing tool in the UNI-Cloud, a brand new survey app called ‘UNI-Collect’, new layer functionalities, and the completion of using your UNI-GR1 as a base rover. More on this in future Feature Friday blogs!
