Release Update – November 2022

This is a marXact monthly update for our clients!

Hi,

We have made it our mission to make digital surveying available to every field worker out there. To create the best possible personalized surveying experience for all of them, with handy tips and tricks, connections with other apps or software, and new feature releases frequently.

We combine the (start of) new features in monthly updates: these Release Update mailings. In this edition, we will tell you more about new functions that we are continuing to work on, what we showed at the international trade fairs INTERGEO and bauma, and what surveying possibilities you can expect next year.

Feel free to forward this e-mail to colleagues who survey with the UNI-GR1 and/or process data in the UNI-Cloud, so that they are also informed of what’s to come or could register for our upcoming Demo Drinks on December 8th

Impressions during INTERGEO: UNI-Collect

We participated in INTERGEO last month, the leading expo and conference platform for geo-information, geodata, and future-oriented applications. In the weeks, months even, leading up to this fair, we worked hard on the first version of our new surveying software: the measurement app UNI-Collect.

You see a print screen of a project that has been measured on-site in the image above. In front of the main entrance of Messe Essen, visitors have measured points, lines, and polygons and you can see just that. For this, they have used the record panel, with which you actually save points.

During INTERGEO we showed this version, visitors experienced for themselves how easy and intuitive surveying can and should be, and good discussions were held. We use all this information to adjust the software, improve the user experience, and determine which features absolutely must be part of the first live version. An important process that we still spend a lot of time on.

bauma-chine control

INTERGEO was followed by bauma, where the first physical sneak peek of our machine control solution was shown: UNI-Machine. This first prototype showed the centimetre accurate view operators can have of the excavator bucket in the front, side, and top view.

Visitors were able to dig themselves and ask questions to our team and our partner, Nijhuis Engineering. In the image above, you can see the views, just as a colorful block of green on the left. These blocks were even developed and added to the screen during the fair and indicate how much higher or lower the bucket moves in relation to the model. When you go up, you get blue blocks. If you go down, they turn red.

The many conversations, experiences, and feedback have given us many ideas and suggestions. We are currently using this feedback to determine how we can further develop our machine control to make it as easy and insightful as possible.

Radio on our radar

When surveying in an area with little or no internet coverage, you’ll need to look for other ways to get started. One is using a UNI-GR1 as its own base station to which your rover UNI-GR1 connects through its internal radio.

We are now fully testing that and use that information for improvements, prior to new tests. This opportunity will also become available to you in 2023!

Preparing next year

In addition to continuing to work on UNI-Collect and UNI-Machine, we do much more. For example, we are now fully engaged in preparing and planning features, tasks, and developments for next year. That is not surprising, because 2023 is already around the corner!

We prepare this extensively. We use these weeks to get off to a good start and set up a nice marXact marathon next year. We are already researching, prioritizing, and planning our work, including:

  • UNI-Collect
    • Firstly for existing users and
    • Followed by non-users
  • UNI-Machine
  • More import and export possibilities
  • New internal GPS chip
  • Even more layers and accompanying support
  • Radio functionality
  • Tilt feature

As you are used to from us, we will continue to keep you informed of the development and go live of new surveying possibilities. So keep an eye on the next Release Updates for more information on this!

What steps do you need to take?

Not a lot, if we are completely honest with you. All updates are done
automatically and while you are out surveying in the field or preparing tasks in the office. You might need to turn your UNI-GR1 off and on again, but only when the update stops unexpectedly. After turning it on again, you are good to go.

 More releases coming up

In the time ahead, we will also keep you informed of the developments of marXact machine control and UNI-Collect. That’s what these Release Update mailings are for.

We will send you a new email full of information about new functions and improvements next month, so that you stay fully informed!
