Feature Friday – December 2021
We have made it our mission to make digital surveying available to every field worker out there. To create the best possible personalized surveying experience for all of them, with handy tips and tricks, connections with other apps or software, and new feature releases frequently.
We’re going to combine these releases and updates and how they’ll improve your digital surveying We combine these releases and updates and how they’ll improve your digital surveying experience in monthly updates: these Feature Friday blogs. This blog is dedicated to some exciting new features that are coming your way shortly and bigger projects we have started working on. In this last edition of 2021, we update you on a new way of project settings and creating layers with integrations, the status of your sync, and we look forward to 2022.
Project settings and creating layers with the API
Since recently, you are able to choose project settings and create new layers using the API, which is especially useful for parties that work with GeoJSON integrations. This makes it easier for you to prepare projects, including when the back office creates projects while surveyors drive to the location, for example.

Sync status
It will be possible to see the status of your synchronization in UNI-Connect soon. We are currently testing and improving this feature, so that you can use it immediately after its release – most probably in the new UNI-Connect update. A frequently requested position that we are more than happy to make for you.
Bug fixes and stability
We have worked hard to make the UNI-Solutions stronger and more stable in recent weeks. Behind the scenes, we have fixed several bugs, improved the stability of UNI-Connect and the UNI-Cloud, and made several minor adjustments. These aren’t spectacular new features, but we think it’s important that you know that we’re not only working on new features, but we’re also continuing to improve and update the current ones. To give you an idea of what these improvements mean; after updating, the UNI-GR1 becomes about 4 to 5 times faster in various aspects.
New year, new version of UNI-Connect
At the end of this year and just before Christmas, we will start rolling out a new version of UNI-Connect. This version should therefore be rolled out on all UNIs in the new year, it’s an update full of optimizations and stabilizations. This allows you to experience how easy it is to survey and synchronize points digitally, because the UNI becomes faster and the loading time becomes less. In addition, you get better feedback about the number of satellites you use, the UNI handles RTK data smarter, you have a fix faster, and it is much easier to see whether the reception and the fix are good. How convenient is that?!
Getting ready for volume
We have now reached the first phase of volume calculation. This much-requested feature is high on our developing wish list and we are currently doing the necessary work for preparations. What options are available and which one is most easy for UNI users? We will continue with this process in the upcoming weeks and develop the option to add an automatic calculation between different points. This is also expected to return as a feature in the backend, allowing integration API users to use our open-source library and link their own software to it, if they wish to.

Testing for (user) experience
We will do lots of testing, implement improvements and then release new features next year. This is how we always operate, but we will do that even more to improve your (user) experience and roll out functions with even fewer bugs in 2022. We are going to spend a lot of time on the user interface and the user experience (UI and UX), so that you can survey points even more easily or have more control over the entire process and, as announced more often, are launching a new app that should make the overall surveying experience even smoother. You can read more about it in the following Feature Friday blogs.
What steps do you need to take?
Not a lot, if we are completely honest with you. All updates are done automatically and while you are out surveying in the field or preparing tasks in the office. You might need to turn your UNI-GR1 off and on again, but only when the update stops unexpectedly. After turning it on again, you are good to go.
More releases coming up
We have more releases coming up next year, including expanding the UNI-Cloud project measuring and editing possibilities, drawing points and lines in the UNI-Cloud, the UNI-Collect app, extra coordinate systems, and more possibilities for import and export in the UNI-Cloud. More on this in future Feature Friday blogs!
