Feature Friday – November 2021
We have made it our mission to make digital surveying available to every field worker out there. To create the best possible personalized surveying experience for all of them, with handy tips and tricks, connections with other apps or software, and new feature releases frequently.
We’re going to combine these releases and updates and how they’ll improve your digital surveying experience in monthly updates: these Feature Friday blogs. This blog is dedicated to some exciting new features that are coming your way shortly and bigger projects we have started working on. In this edition, we’re updating you on the 3G to 4G transition, have some new survey project essentials, and have some news on optimizations and stability.

UNI-Cloud survey project essentials
We have told you about some new survey project essentials during the Feature Friday in October. Those include showing object information in the survey sidebar and turning labels on and off. But as you know by now, we don’t stop at just those essentials. We have created additional functionalities and tricks to improve your surveying game. As of this month, you are able to:
- Change names in the UNI-Cloud
- Edit or delete points in the cloud, using the pencil in the side menu – as seen above
- Small tweaks to create a more user-friendly interface
One of the projects we’re currently working on, is the ability to measure lengths, surfaces, circumferences in the UNI-Cloud just as you do in UNI-Connect, while adding volume measurements. More on that later.
From 3G to 4G, free of charge
All right, it is the elephant in the room. In every room within every technology company that is. The transition to 4G has been coming for a while and in a matter of time, you can no longer make use of 3G for your internet access.
You make use of the internet during your surveying process, thus being impacted by this transition. We are in the final stages of planning and logistics, but we can tell you this much: our solution will be smooth and free of charge. Yes, free of charge. Just as every (hardware) update, you receive from us. We will update you on this solution in January 2022, including when its rollout phase will start.
Project import/export optimization
Optimizing importing and/or exporting files is a process that never stops. We’re actually glad it doesn’t, because it allows us to keep improving our UNI-Solutions for you. Recently, we have created the possibility to add points manually and delete error exports from the general overview.
But the addition that is most likely the one that has the biggest impact on your workflow, is the DXF email. After completing your task, you can send your DXF export via email immediately! Send it to your colleagues in the office, your partner organizations within this specific project, or your nosy neighbour. We have made it possible, you just choose the recipients and hit ‘send’.
Looking at labels in the UNI-Cloud
Earlier on, we made it possible to show object labels in the cloud. We have extended what you can do with labels by adding the possibility to see the name of points with those. To make it more visual, those names are exactly the same as the ones you give in while you’re surveying in the field.
Speed and stability
We have completed and released a lot of features recently. Some were requests that were send in by users, others came from our wish to provide you with ever-evolving products. After releasing new features at the rate we have, it was time to clean up the code again and improve stability and resolve bugs for edge cases, which are resolved due to the upcoming update. It will improve, among others, your RTK network connection, time to fix, synchronisation smoothness, and in general; your productivity.

What steps do you need to take?
Not a lot, if we are completely honest with you. All updates are done automatically and while you are out surveying in the field or preparing tasks in the office. You might need to turn your UNI-GR1 off and on again, but only when the update stops unexpectedly. After turning it on again, you are good to go.

More releases coming up
We have more releases coming up this year, including new coordinate systems for centimetre accurate points in other countries, new layer functionalities, expanding the Dutch KLIC viewer possibilities by adding codes via UNI-Connect for digital surveying, and an easy to use CAD drawing tool in the UNI-Cloud. More on this in future Feature Friday blogs!
