Feature Friday – August 2021
We have made it our mission to make digital surveying available to every field worker out there. To create the best possible personalized surveying experience for all of them, with handy tips and tricks, connections with other apps or software, and new feature releases frequently.
We’re going to combine these releases and updates and how they’ll improve your digital surveying experience in monthly updates: these Feature Friday blogs. This blog is dedicated to some exciting new features that are coming your way shortly and bigger projects we have started working on. For example, you can now import and export via the UNI-Cloud, benefit from major changes to our UNI-RTK Premium network, we have started developing a new look of the UNI-Cloud and many, many small improvements have been made to the UNI-Solutions.
Import and export via the UNI-Cloud, including DWG-support
We spoke earlier about expanding data import and export capabilities that are being worked on. After testing and adjusting frequently, the UNI-Cloud export and import have now gone live. This allows you to send measured points, lines, and polygons as CSV, DWG, or DXF and import drawings before you step onto the field.
In addition, we have made several small improvements that increase your import-export functionalities. For example, you can select which layers you want to import and you can put them directly in the existing UNI-Cloud layers. We continue to expand capabilities and integrate requests to enhance your survey experience.
In the upcoming months, we will expand the UNI-Cloud import/export with GeoJSON (also via the UNI-Cloud API), Shapefiles, PDF, XLS, and more!

Major UNI-RTK Premium upgrade, replacing all Benelux base stations
We recently made a major update to the UNI-RTK Premium network. All antennas in the Benelux have been replaced by the most recent type of ‘choke ring’ antenna, which guarantees that non-relevant signals do not reach the antennas. This creates better a signal reception for our users.
When you have continued working over the holiday period and surveyed data recently, you have already experienced the benefits. The base stations are up to 3 times more stable and accurate, which you will see in your results. You notice that you achieve a stable fix faster and also maintain it for a longer period of time under difficult conditions in the field, under trees for example. Your accuracy can even fall below the centimetre!

New look of the UNI-Cloud
We have taken the first steps to customize the look and feel of the UNI-Cloud. A new, fresh design that makes it easier to navigate through the survey process, with logically sequential steps to store points, lines, and polygons. Working in the cloud becomes even more user-friendly, more intuitive, and your survey experience even more personal.
The image above gives you an indication of the new design, which we will be releasing in the upcoming weeks. It is also nice to mention that this new UNI-Cloud style will be implemented in UNI-Collect, your new Android and iOS survey app that is currently being worked on.

What steps do you need to take?
Not a lot, if we are completely honest with you. All updates are done automatically and while you are out surveying in the field or preparing tasks in the office. You might need to turn your UNI-GR1 off and on again, but only when the update stops unexpectedly. After turning it on again, you are good to go.
More releases coming up
We have more releases coming up this year, including new coordinate systems for centimetre accurate points in other countries, new layer functionalities, expanding KLIC viewer possibilities for Dutch users by adding codes via UNI-Connect, a CAD drawing tool in the UNI-Cloud, and a brand new survey app called ‘UNI-Collect’. More on this in future Feature Friday blogs!
